The first thing a person who wishes to approach the Lord must do is to acknowledge that he is a sinner, therefore exposed to eternal condemnation, so he must be willing to accept Christ as his personal Savior. He must believe that without Jesus he can not speak to God the Father, because He is the only mediator between God and men.1 Timothy 2:5.
That just as Christ took the form of man he can sympathize with humans understanding their sufferings and temptations, and that for that reason we can confidently approach the Throne of Grace and find opportune help. Hebrews 4:14-16.
Second– After accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior, the believer must take another step of great importance so that the work of redemption is poured out into his life; this is repentance.
Repentance is the change of mind or a repudiation of sin to return to God. Repentance itself does not make us worthy of salvation but leads to the place where we can attain God’s saving grace and be regenerated. No one can be regenerated without first experiencing repentance.
Once a person accepts Christ and has sincerely repented of his sins, then he must think about a very important step in his life which is water baptism by immersion.
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Romans 6:4-5
