Step 1: Lesson 1

Understanding the meaning of water baptism

  1.  The Baptism

Baptism in water is an important step the doctrine of Christ baptism in water It is not simply a Rite or a significant ceremony but it is an experience in the life of a true Christian How are you recorded for us not only in the gospels but also in the acts of the Apostles and in the epistles.

Every believer should know that baptism is not optional baptism or baptize means to immerse immersion or submerge. By definition, I use the word means to put in or underwater until it is totally submerged.

Baptism in water is a symbolic experience and at the same time a truly spiritual experience.

It symbolizes: Baptism is a sign of devotion to God, when you are baptized, you are made one with your father in Heaven just as a husband gets married to his wife and they become one. Ephesians 4:4-6 says, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

  1. Death-  3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:3-5,11

  1. Burial- buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.  Colossians 2:12
  2. Resurrection- If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1,

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Romans 6:4-5

Baptism is the external act that publicly proclaims the new birth and the access of believers to the benefits of the Redemption. Many times, children are baptized while naming them but the act of baptism needs to be done when someone is old enough in spirit to know the value it comes with because it has a deep meaning that needs one to accept willingly.
